[25]Costa del Sol & Andalucia

There are really two worlds on Spain’s southern coast – the highly developed coastal strip, including resorts like Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella, and inland the timeless, Moorish-influenced Andalucia of Granada, Ronda and the ‘white villages’. Hotel developments straddle both these worlds. You can choose to be on the coast or up in the hills, though you will certainly need a car if you stay far inland.

This area is one of the worlds major golf centres, with dozen of beautifully designed and tended courses to choose from.

The Costa del Sol has Spain’s mildest winter climate, which is why more and more people are taking long winter breaks away from the rigours and heating bills of a British winter.

Torremolinos in particular is great fun, and Marbella and the nearby Puerto Banus remain stylish and chic. If you really do want peace and quiet, you can always head for the hills, or further east where the stretch beyond Malaga is less developed. Nerja is the main resort here, and very pleasant it is too.

The eastern part of the Costa del Sol has many small coves and beaches and a more Spanish feel than the rest. The attractive resorts of Almunecar and Motril are in the province of Granada, whose coast is sometimes known as the Costa Tropical.

Whatever you call it, this is an interesting area. Inland is the Sierra Nevada and a series of smaller hill ranges including the Alpujarras, made famous by Dave Stewart in his book ‘ Driving over Lemons’. There has been very little tourist development in these hills, and as a result you can see old Spain.

The vast majority of holiday accommodation remains west of Malaga. Mijas just inland from Fuengirola is a good example.

If you can tear yourself away from the beach or pool, a visit to Grenada and its Alhambra (the wonderful Moorish palace) is well worth while. It’s also straightforward now to visit Gibraltar for the day, and there’s a good road up to Ronda, with its bullring and spectacular position atop an inland cliff.

[22]The Internet makes your vacation experience easy – Koh Phangan accomodation

Everybody loves to go on vacation, and top of the list of the dream vacations are exotic places such as Koh Phangan or other tropical, but accessible spots providing reasonable accommodation, but we’ll get back to that. The main thing is that people love their free time and spending it accordingly. There are plenty who prefer sitting back and relaxing at home, taking care of personal business, walking their dog, playing with their kids, doing barbeques, watching TV or sleeping away a bunch of afternoons but many people greatly enjoy getting away from the big city and the routine to quiet or exotic places. Next, we’ll see how a few clicks on the internet could spare you a lot of trouble. Stick around for a couple of minutes.

Sometimes, planning a vacation can turn into a real pain in the neck, in search for good accommodation and beautiful places, but Koh Phangan, which will please the entire family. This is where you don’t want to be: running around, wasting time, gasoline and nerves wandering throughout the city, searching for the traveling agency that will hopefully suit all your needs. Personally, I “like” it best when I finally find what I need instead of running into a very “kind” clerk who does “everything” in his/her powers to help me when I ask for a piece of info that I’m having trouble finding: “Haven’t you seen? It’s written in the (invisible, if I may say) brochure. Listen, mister, I’ve got enough work to do already so please try to help yourself.”

Luckily, a few friends of mine pointed me in the right direction: the Internet. It’s really easy nowadays to find information about your desired vacation spots and the accommodation options available there because there are many specialized sites around to help you.

Let’s take for example phanganisland.com. Online, I learned that it’s a small company founded in 2003 by two partners, providing great accommodation and many other services in Koh Phangan, a small tropical island in the gulf of Thailand. They have an interactive and user-friendly site that easily points you the right way. They provide potential customers with an Online Reservation and Booking Service for Bungalow Resorts and Hotels on the island. There’s a various range of locations available for accommodation: by the sea, but also in the inner part of the island and in the mountainous areas. Their website clearly highlights some of the many services they offer in Koh Phangan, among which: a motorbike rental service (providing helmets as well; safety first!), housekeeping services, organized tours around the island and also a jeep rental service, so that you can ride around for yourself and see the beauty of the surrounding landscape. There are mountain and jungle trekking trips and also fishing tours, even night fishing.

I was amazed how practical online business is. Along with detailed information regarding short-term but also long-term accommodation resources, they also highlight business opportunities like lands to lease and so on. So practically, if you have enough money, you can buy yourself a piece of land, build a house or organize a bungalow resort (which is not extremely expensive) and then put it to good use. Most of the houses and bungalows on the island are rented out by the local people who own property there. It is indicated to turn to accommodation alternatives such as Koh Phangan’s, because you can save considerably as all expenses for food and others comforts are significantly lower compared to any hotel.

Going away on a trip to a distant island may seem an expensive fairy tale, but online I learned that it’s no longer that way. I was surprised to discover Koh Phangan and so will you be. Just check out the resource below and see that you too can have a dream vacation on an exotic island.

[7/19]Koh Phangan – accommodation accessible to anyone!

What do words like “Koh Phangan” and “accommodation” tell you? I’m sure they bring to your mind images of you on an exotic island, sitting on the beach with a cocktail and having the time of your life. You can almost feel the breeze.

The only problem concerning having such an “adventure” these days (besides never having the time…) is the serious lack of money, and you’re not the only one facing this issue. Unfortunately, most trips to exotic locations (and trips abroad in general) are really expensive and offer you few accommodation alternatives to multi-star hotels or fancy villas rented at excessive prices. I’m sure that no one (besides superstars who can afford bathing in champagne or other extravaganzas) is at peace with the idea of spending tens of thousands of dollars on a simple vacation especially these days, with stuff on your mind like a mortgage or perhaps a car leasing rate, children’s school taxes and many more.

Luckily for you, I found an alternative to a head-aching vacation a few days ago. And one must admit that no one has fun spending half of the day thinking about how “thin” the wallet is... Well that can stop now. Koh Phangan is “the name of the game”. It’s a small tropical island in the gulf of Thailand, next to Samui. They have a small company there, founded in January 2003 by Malee Thangtira and Simon Beisl. The whole deal went online in October 2003. They offer accommodation services for prices accessible to more people than through traveling agencies or who knows what other intermediates. There are houses, as well as bungalows available for rent along with many services. The island’s landscape is various: you can rent a bungalow on the beach, a house in an inner garden or maybe one in the mountainous area.

The best thing about these houses rented out by the locals (besides the low-price accommodation) is that they offer you intimacy, as you are able to spend you vacation unbothered. Koh Phangan is also a wonderful place with stunning views. Just think about how it would be, renting a house in the mountain side, facing the ocean and waking up in the morning in the glow of the sun rising above the sea, watching a stunning landscape.

Besides the beauty of the places, there is a practical financial side of things. Choosing Koh Phangan as your next vacation spot does not only offer you a great experience, but also saves you a significant amount of money, with prices usually ranging between 90 – 150 dollars/month in case of cheaper accommodation and 250 – 500 for medium-priced houses and bungalows. Of course, for those of you who can afford a bit of luxury, there are houses rented out for prices up to 600-1000 dollars per month.

In any case, it’s still a lot cheaper than checking into a 3-5 star hotel, paying everyone around, having to give fat tips in order no to be misspoken of by the personnel and so on. Not to mention that “great” rule that most hotels have, and that is the prohibition of bringing in water bought from outside the hotel, thus forcing you to buy 1-litter bottles of water for five bucks and so on – “great” accommodation indeed. In Koh Phangan, there’s none of that hypocritical nonsense, because they care first of all about you having a good time. I think it wouldn’t hurt checking out the free resource below for more information. You won’t be sorry!

[7/17]Top Tips For Hiking In Cape Town

Cape Town is renowned for its natural beauty, its endless beaches and its magnificent mountains. Most keen hikers who visit this South African city enjoy making the most of the numerous excellent hiking trails all over the region. Plenty of inexperienced hikers are also inspired to lace up a pair of hiking boots and take to the hills and mountains. Table Mountain is possibly the most popular mountain for tourists as it is such an iconic landmark and it looks friendly and welcoming, gazing benevolently over the city.

However, if you are not a regular hiker and decide on impulse to ‘go and explore the mountain’ or indeed any of the trails in the Cape, it is important to remember that getting lost or landing up in a distressing situation can and does happen to many ramblers and climbers in Cape Town each year. Don’t be fooled into imagining it won’t happen to you! The mist can roll in out of a seemingly blue sky. Rain can arrive unexpectedly. A wrong path can mean you end up lost, cold and alone after dark. Snakes and spiders are plentiful and many of them can inflict deadly bites.

This article is not meant to put you off, but rather to encourage you to take sensible precautions that will stand you in good stead should you inadvertently end up in a difficult situation while exploring the beautiful Cape countryside.

Take with you:
• Plenty of water (you can also top up your supply en route at mountain streams)
• Plenty of energy-rich snacks
• A cell phone with airtime and a charged battery. Save the Mountain Rescue number on the phone: 021-9489900
• Good walking shoes and thick socks (avoid barefoot hiking)
• A route map (these can be bought or downloaded off the Internet)
• A warm, waterproof jacket
• Wear long trousers
• Sunblock and hat. Sunglasses also recommended
• First Aid Kit (make sure you check the contents and know what they are for!)
• Torch

Safety check list
• Walk in a group, preferably a minimum of four. One should be elected leader
• Check the weather report before hand
• Don’t walk in the heat of the day or too close to sundown
• Don’t tackle a hike beyond the capabilities of the whole group
• Avoid short cuts not featured on the map
• Make sure someone knows where you are going and when you expect to be back. Leave your cell number with them.
• Don’t become separated from your group

If you get lost
• Don’t panic
• Try retrace your steps
• If you cannot find the path take the safest, least steep way down and take note of landmarks in case you have to retrace your steps
• If you are completely lost call for help and if necessary find some shelter in case of bad weather, while you wait to be rescued.

If someone is hurt

• Don’t move them unnecessarily
• Call for help
• Keep them warm
• Administer first aid if required

Once you have worked through the above check list you can head off for a wonderful day out, confident in the knowledge that you’ll be able to handle any eventuality.

Now get out there and explore!

[7/16]Save Money Visiting Paris: Rent an Apartment

Paris is an amazing destination. Millions visit Paris every year, and it’s no wonder why; the city of lights features numerous memorable attractions, outstanding dining, and a traditional flair that is hard to find anywhere else on the planet. For all these reasons, Paris is also remarkably expensive to visit.

That’s where long term apartments can come in handy. There are literally thousands of short and long term apartments available throughout the city, and generally, the longer you plan on staying, the greater your savings.

There are a number of advantages to renting an apartment when visiting Paris. First, it’s a much more authentic experience. You are actually experiencing Paris like a Parisian, up close and personal. Generally, you’ll find yourself in a charming neighborhood surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and often, a museum or other tourist attraction.

And don’t worry, renting an apartment is almost as convenient as going to a hotel. In most cases, a friendly manager is waiting to greet you and show you to your apartment as soon as you arrive. In fact, they will often offer to arrange a taxi from the airport, just to make sure you arrive in comfort.

And while the comforts of most hotels are quite appealing, apartments are usually larger and have additional amenities such as kitchens, stereos and televisions, and larger bathrooms.

It is important to have a list of requirements before you begin looking for Paris accommodation. Every apartment is unique, and not every one will be ideally suited to your personality or requirements. Keep in mind how many bedrooms you require, what type of bed you are looking for, even whether you need or want a television in the room. There is great variety available, offering every combination you might be looking for.

Apartments are a viable option whether you are staying for a week, for several weeks, or for several months. Generally, hotels rates in Paris start at 150 euros per night. That can get quite expensive over a few weeks. Apartments on the other hand, can start as low as 50 euros a night, and usually you will receive a greater discount the longer you stay.

As for which neighborhood is the best, that’s really up to you. Generally, I try to arrange accommodation within districts 1 through 5, as these are the most convenient for accessing attractions, shopping, and outstanding dining.

There are hundreds of sites dedicated to showcasing Paris apartments for tourists. Most of these site provide pictures, descriptions, and maps to show you the apartment and surrounding area. When it comes time to pay, simply use your credit card, much as you would when booking a hotel.

I do recommend to anyone planning a visit to Paris to search through online forums relating to tourism in Paris or about visiting Paris. These forums can be a great resource for answering key questions about the city, the people, the attractions and transportation. Recommendations from other people will make your visit complete.

When you visit Paris as a tourist, you want be immersed in the history, the wonderful culture, and the amazing architecture। Regardless of how long you are thinking of staying, renting an apartment in Paris will save you a significant amount of money. This will ensure you spend your time enjoying your time in Paris, instead of wondering how you will pay for your accommodation.

[7/12]Cape Town In 48 Hours

So you’re in Cape Town on a whistle-stop tour and want to try squeeze as much of the Mother City as possible into your 48 hours?

You could spend a year in this beautiful city and still not have seen and experienced all it has to offer, but let’s see what we can do to make sure you don’t miss out on the ‘Must Sees’ - especially for first-timers.

The idea of this itinerary is to whet your appetite so that you return as soon as possible to do Cape Town full justice!

On landing at Cape Town International Airport, let’s for argument’s sake assume your flight lands at 8 a.m., you need to retrieve your luggage, collect your hire car, and head directly to the Table Mountain Cable Way, above Cape Town’s city centre. Leave the bulk of your luggage and simply take a back pack with money, a camera, sunblock and a warm top. Your early arrival should ensure that you don’t need to queue for very long. The ride up in the revolving cable car offers your first real look at the sprawling city and surrounds – with a unique 360 degree perspective. Once you arrive at the top you can enjoy breakfast at the restaurant, taking the time to fill in postcards bragging to your friends that you are having your first meal in the Cape on top of one of the world’s most famous and imposing landmark mountains!

Don’t linger too long over that second cup of coffee – you need to be down by midday to go into the CBD for a spot of shopping and exploring. Depending on your personal tastes you may enjoy browsing and gift-buying at the famous Green Market Square (open daily in the week and on Saturday mornings), or you might prefer to take in an exhibition at one of the local art galleries and museums. The main Cape Town Iziko Museum is set in the heart of the historical Cape Company Gardens which in themselves provide a lovely setting for a stroll.

Next, head to the Victoria & Albert Waterfront for a luscious lunch at one of the many eateries overlooking the harbour. More shops beckon and you could spend all day exercising your credit card, but leave enough time for a late afternoon drive around the Atlantic Seaboard. Enjoy sundowners at trendy Camps Bay or beautiful Clifton – both have exquisite white beaches lapped by aquamarine waters, and numerous pavement cafes overlooking them.

This area is ideal for booking your first night’s accommodation as there are numerous luxury self catering apartments, villas and guest houses – be sure you’ve booked ahead to avoid disappointment. Once you’ve checked in and freshened up, head out for a dinner and some gambling fun at Grand West Casino – a 15 minute drive from the CBD. If you prefer to dance, there are some great little clubs in town, or you could head back to the Waterfront and enjoy a movie or attend the Theatre on the Bay right in Camps Bay which almost always has an excellent production on the go. Once again, plan and book in advance. Local newspapers and Time Out magazine will have details on what’s on entertainment-wise.

No matter how tired you are when you finally fall into bed, set the alarm clock so that you’re on the road early. If you’re really enthusiastic you may even catch the sunrise! In any event, take a leisurely drive, against the daily traffic, to Hout Bay. Here you can enjoy a delicious breakfast and perhaps browse around the harbour-side shops and market. Then get your camera ready for a spectacular drive – over Chapman’s Peak which surely offers the most breath-taking sea and mountain views anywhere. At the end of the pass is Noordhoek. If you’ve planned ahead you can go for an hour’s horse ride along the wide expanse of the beautiful beach. Make sure you’re back behind the wheel in time to take the winding coastal road past Kommetjie, via Scarborough. Here you can enjoy a delectable lunch followed by a walk up to the viewing point of the tip of the African continent.

Later, drive on into Simon’s Town and be fascinated by the Jackass Penguin Colony at Boulders and Seaforth Beaches. The recently built Penguin Centre offers a mine of information on these curious and cute sea birds.

Next, head along the coastal road out of Muizenberg, along Strandfontein to Stellenbosch in the heart of the Cape Wine Route. Book in at Spier Wine Estate and dine at the wildly unusual and exquisite Moya, Spier’s own restaurant. Moya often has live music, dance or theatre productions. Find out in advance and book! We guarantee a good night’s sleep will follow…

Okay, so we’re cheating and are adding a couple more hours, but really, can you blame us? You can’t leave before cramming in a visit to at least two of the local wine estates before driving back to Cape Town International Airport in time to bid the city a sad farewell.

As the plane takes off and you get a final glimpse of Cape Town we know you’ll be promising to be back as soon as you possibly can.

[7/11]A travel Guide To The Bodrum Peninsula Posted

A Short History of Bodrum
The reason that Bodrum is extremely popular is not only because of the beautiful scenery and architecture but also the remarkable Mausoleum of Halicarnassus that was built in the 4th Century BC by King Mausolus. Although it was ruined by a catastrophic earthquake it has since be restored and is now an adaptation of the former theatre and is often used for theatrical performances, which don't go unnoticed as the theatre itself stands high above the town. The town also played an important role when it was involved with the crusades which are the reason for its two medieval landmarks, the ottoman-era castle and St Peter's church.

Travel Route
The most popular and easy way to get to Bodrum is by flying to the modern airport 30 kilometres away. The only catch is that you can only fly internally from Istanbul or Ankara. There is a rail route and ferries but these are definitely the less popular option. If you prefer to drive then you will get beautiful views of the coast line, which will distract you from the long drive ahead. There are plenty of opportunities to rent a hire car from Antalya, however if you don't want to risk turning up on the day book online with the hire car specialist Car Rentals.co.uk which offer a very good deal.

Accommodation
Because the town has grown since tourists started arriving there are older more quaint places to stay and some modern guesthouses and hotels. The Hotels and guest houses are all in walking distance form the harbour but you will find these are the most expensive places to stay. If you are looking for a smaller, cheaper but still beautiful place to stay you will easily find somewhere to stay in the old town. There is plenty of accommodation but during the high season advance booking will be needed as the nicer accommodation is taken earliest.

Day Trips
If you are visiting the spectacular peninsula you must explore all the beautiful sights and towns. If you are looking for a quiet day on the beach then visiting Ortakent is the beach for you as it a small private beach or Torba is a quiet little bay in a quaint little village. If the weather is disappointing then Bitez has a picturesque boulevard with cafe's serving fabulous food. If you would like to try windsurfing then Akyalar will suit you just right, with great camping facilities and powdery white sand.!-- google_ad_section_

[7/10]Why Steel Buildings Aren’t Safe From Thieves

Why Steel Buildings Aren’t Safe From Thieves

While you might not realize it, steel buildings and metal buildings have become a thief’s dream for reasons that you might not expect. These buildings may be tough on the weather and pests, but they just can’t hold up to thieves that realize the fortunes that lay in the frames. By stripping construction sites and new homes, these thieves have been able to make money for themselves as the price for aluminum and copper continues to rise. Is there anything that you can do to protect your construction site?

First of all, you need to realize that a home that isn’t finished is still the responsibility of the contractor to protect – and that means you. By showing your customers that you value their home, you will earn their trust as well as repeat business from referrals or from the clients themselves. You want to treat their home as you would want your own home to be treated – or even better. With this attitude in mind, here are the ways that you can protect their investment.

• Security workers – You can hire security detail to monitor the construction site when you will not be there. These security details aren’t necessarily expensive and need only be used during the evenings when other security measures will not work. You will want to thoroughly investigate each of the security guards that you hire with a full background check and check any references they might offer. These guards can either sit in their car to watch the site or they can drive by at regular intervals, depending on your personal preference and needs. As the house is built up, these security details can be minimize as other security measures can be used.
• Alarm systems – Each construction site should have some sort of theft deterrent system that either sounds a loud alarm or silently alerts the police to a possible theft. A combination of the two types of alarms can be an effective way to head off thieves. You may want to choose a silent alarm for the beginning of the criminal act so that police have time to respond, and then have the louder alarm go off for neighbors to respond more immediately.
• Surveillance cameras – By installing security cameras, you can create an invisible method of catching thieves that want to steel from metal buildings and steel buildings. These cameras will not be able to work in darker lighting, but they can be affective for days that you might not be at the site – holidays, rain days, etc. Be sure to check the quality of the film to be sure that you can discern the identity of the thieves that are caught on tape.
• Fences – Many constructions sites have opted to put up high fences to keep thieves from taking the copper and metal scraps from the site. These are physical deterrents that can be combined with any of the other methods as well.

When you have a construction site that will someday be the home for a family, doesn’t it make sense that you take the time to protect their investment and their future?

[7/9]What to Do When Your Business Runs Out of Room

If your business is successful, chances are good that you will start to run out of space for the products you are selling or the employees that you have hired. And while it might seem like a good idea to find a new space to move into, this can become problematic as the ‘perfect’ space is not always easy to come by. Also, switching your office space can be tricky when you already have established yourself in one location and at a particular address. So, what do you do when your business runs out of room?

If you feel you are well-established in the area that you’re living in, you may want to try to look into renting a warehouse facility to help ease your storage space. Metal buildings that are located offsite can be rented for a monthly fee and can have security measures in place to protect your business’ inventory. You will also be able to select certain environments for your products and access these areas on a daily basis. However, some companies find this arrangement problematic because it separates them from instant access to their goods, which they had come to expect from their cramped arrangements. Another problem for some business is that these steel buildings can become expensive to rent, especially when you’re not gaining anything back for your investment.

You might also want to try looking into drop shipping to help you with your inventory overload. By hiring someone else to store and send your products to customers, you can ease your storage space and help to streamline your business practices as well. Of course, business owners that do not like to relinquish control of their customer services, so this can be an issue in some cases. There are also drop shippers that can be less than reliable which can lead to problems with customer orders and shipping rates – but all in all, they can help to free up space as well as responsibility. Be sure to investigate each of the drop shipper providers in detail so that you can be sure that you trust their capabilities.

If you have the land to do so, metal buildings and steel buildings can be a great way to add storage space to your business without having to find a new building offsite. By building your own additional space, you can have complete control over the facility as well as have a cheaper method of construction. As you will own this space, you won’t have to pay the rental fees as well, so it will become an investment in your business. These buildings are easy to put together, sturdy in all kinds of elements, secure, and also recyclable so you’re helping the environment at the same time.

When your business needs space, you need to make some decisions. By thinking about what you have as well as what your customers expect from you, you can make a choice that benefits everyone.

[7/8]Tips on choosing the right Moving Company in New York City

Once you have made up your mind to relocate to a new place, the next important and daunting task is to find a good and reliable residential moving service. Understand that relocating is not an easy task to accomplish alone, and therefore, in most case, choosing a good reliable residential mover or residential moving specialist, becomes a true necessity. Hiring a moving company, though sometimes pricey, reduces the risk factor associated with transporting heavy and/or expensive furniture, and puts lesser strain on your nerves.

As you begin your hunt for a reliable moving company, certain questions come to mind; concerns which should be properly addressed by any potential mover. Be assertive while seeking answers to the following: -

* Is the mover licensed by your state? Call your local regulatory agencies and make sure. For Interstate moves, contact the Federal Motor Carrier Administration.

* Does the mover carry all the necessary insurance coverage? Check with your building for any requirements.

* Will there be any additional charges assessed for stairs, weekend, or holiday moves? Does the mover charge extra for any supplies used? What will those charges be?

* Are there any hidden costs? Ask before booking.

* For a long distance move - What will be the estimated delivery time and how will you be notified?

* If you pack yourself, what type of packing material will be acceptable?

* What will be the mode and time of making payments?

* Besides other responsibilities, will the movers disassemble and reassemble all items requiring such service?

* If you have purchased liability insurance, what will be the claim procedure?

* How long has the moving company been in business and what is the level of experience of their movers, packers and drivers?

* Does the company offer storage facilities? If so, at what cost?

* Make sure you notify your mover of any specialty items such as Pianos, antiques or fine arts.

Finding any moving company in New York City is not very difficult - Selecting a good mover is. Your confidence in your mover can save you from a bundle of heartache down the line. Therefore, please consider the following parameters when choosing a residential relocation specialist -

1.Reputation of Moving Service

The best source for finding the right mover is your friends and family. Listening to what other people have to say. It is absolutely necessary to ask for references from your friends and acquaintances when scouting for prospective movers. Reference from a satisfied customer is one of the best ways of gauging a mover. Another smart move to do will be to ask your prospective mover for references and contacting them directly. Some movers will post such references on their web sites. Be aware however, that the mover will obviously only advertise his ’good moves’.

Consumer targeted groups such as your local Better Business Bureau, are also a good way to see what type of track record your mover has. Keep in mind however, that a larger company who performs thousands of moves each year is more likely to have more complaints then your typical ’mom and pop’ type mover. It is how the mover has handled his complaints and whether they have been handled and/or resolved which should give you and idea of the mover’s ethics and practices. In general, looking up any mover’s complaint record, gives you an insight as to the mindset and business philosophy of the company. In any case, always obtain price quotes from at least 3-4 prospective companies, to compare pricing structure and service value.

When searching for movers on the Internet, never involve a broker, as history has shown that the cost estimates which they provide is often misleading. They further have zero control over the mover they hire, and you will never know just who shows up at your door on moving day.

2.Moving Estimates

Having selected 2-3 compatible moving companies, ask them to provide you with an on-site survey and written estimate. Most movers will do this free of charge. Never accept estimates over the phone, unless you are just moving a few pieces, and there are not any factors present at any of the locations which will present a problem for the mover such as a very narrow stairs case, or doorways. Residential moving is an involved and sometime complex task incorporating many variables; therefore, it is almost impossible to get accurate quotations without having the mover survey the property and belongings.

Involve yourself in the estimation process, as it will help the mover to better understand your requirements and hence, provide for a more accurate estimate. Always perform a self-evaluation before inviting anyone to your place for a cost estimate. Inform your mover about any unusual situations on either end of the move. There may be factors may change the scope of the work to be done and thereby influence the final cost of the move. It is important to know how many flights of stairs are involved on each end and whether there are unusually small elevators and/or services elevators involved. A long carry of your furniture on either end will also influence your final cost, so make sure to tell your mover about this as well. It is your responsibility to make sure that you choosing the proper mover for your move. A mistake in choosing a mover will cost you time, money and lots of aggravation.

Make sure to ask each prospective mover about the validity period of any estimate provided, and whether a flat price, or a ’not to exceed price’ are an option. Make sure all of your agreements with the mover are provided to your in written form.

3.Size & Distance of your Move

Size/weight of your shipment, are prominent factors which add up to the final cost of your move. Identify items which may be sold, donated, or disposed off, so that you don’t end up paying to move things that are no longer useful to you. A reputable mover will always provide you with a weight estimate of your move, thereby assisting you in determining the size parameters of your move. In addition, the distance between your starting and destination point are both big determining factors in the overall price. Expect to pay much more for a cross county move, then for a move within the same town.
Make sure that for a long distance move, your mover provides you with a detailed inventory of your items. The mover will note any and all damages or adverse condition of the furniture at origin. Make sure to note and changes to or damagers to the furniture at the destination. Making these notations will greatly help you in the event of a claim.

4. Moving Time Frame

Remember to set aside plenty of time for planning and preparing for your move. Start such preparation about 8-10 weeks prior to your prospective relocation date. Also, be aware that moving during the summer, which is the peak season for most movers, will make a bigger dent in your wallet. If at all possible, schedule your moving date for an off-peak period. Be sure to give yourself more time in securing an appointment with your mover if your move does have to happen during the end of any month, or during the months of June, July and August.

5.Insurance Coverage & Claims

A good reliable mover will offer you a few options when it comes to insuring your goods. Always acquaint yourself with the insurance choices provided and choose the one which best suits your needs. Inquire about the claim procedures and coverage for loss or damage to your goods. Providing an accurate monetary value of your belongings, will allow you to comfortably settle any claim disputes in the even they do happen. If you have chosen the option of Insurance Vs. Valuation Coverage, make sure you get an insurance certificate reflecting all required liabilities. A good idea is also to ask for proof of Worker’s Compensation coverage which will help absolve you of any liability in the event anyone gets hurt on your property during your move.

6.Full service v/s Customized service

Depending upon your budget, needs and convenience, you may choose from the host of different services provided by a moving company. Full service is always more costly, as everything from packing to delivery and placement is handled by the mover. On the other hand, picking services customized to your requirements can be more economical.
Custom package involves self-packing and moving or heavy lifting by movers. Most movers will offer a wide array of packing supplies for a fair price. You may shop those around as well, but keep in mind that most movers will usually deliver such supplies to your door, free of charge if you meet their required minimum purchase. This will save you the hassle of going out and lugging these supplies around yourself. A good mover will offer useful tips on what should (or should not) be packed in any of your boxes. Do not fall victim to low hourly rates at the cost of quality of service. With mover as with anything else in life, do not forget the old rule of thumb, -you get what you pay for.

7.Viable Payment Options

Some movers will accept credit cards, but most movers will require Cash, Certified/Cashier Check or Postal Money Order as payment. Payment is generally collected prior to the unloading of the moving vehicle at destination. When choosing your moving company, make sure that you confirm the mode and time of the payment. If your wish is to pay using a personal check or a debit card, make sure that you verify whether your mover will be amenable to such payment arrangement.

[7/7]Rescuing concrete floors from holes and adhesives

As companies attempt to retrofit floor spaces and walls, carpeting and vinyl tile are often removed or repositioned. These renovations usually end up exposing large areas of adhesives, underlayments, and
sprawling holes from anchors, studding, and equipment. Now there is a solution with step by step instructions and help.

Remodelers often can see no alternative but to reinstall similar adhesives and floor coverings like carpet and tile. This is unfortunate because hard epoxy, urethane, and glass emulsion surfaces offer less expensive and longer wearing alternatives.

If concrete is exposed to wear, it will eventually deteriorate. Friction wear, erosion, and contamination all play a role. Dust, cracks, crumbling, rough surfaces, and the inability to keep the environment clean are symptoms of a floor that has not been protected and is moving towards an unserviceable condition. Carpeting often holds contaminants in place and can be a growth medium for mold and mildew. Vinyl tile cannot hold up under heavy wheeled traffic, is subject to lifting when wet, and has a soft finish which can be contaminated by solvents and dyes. In contrast, laminated epoxy coatings create a wear-barrier between a floor and its environment. These laminated surfaces not only keep the concrete from deteriorating but also provide a protective plate over it. Contaminants and hazards, like PCBs, heavy metals, and toxic chemicals, are kept away from the porous concrete. Properly applied, these laminated surfaces can provide decades of protection and service.

Epoxy coated floors can cure, rather than just cover over, the holes that exist in even the most devastated floors. Customers are often surprised how holes from old walls and equipment stands can be made
to disappear when filled with 100% solid epoxy and then ground flush. The process is quick, easy, and long lasting.

Supplies that may be needed include adhesive removers, oil removing detergents, and durable long lasting epoxy fillers for holes, joints, cracks, and crumbling surfaces. Kits of materials can be customized to owner specification and delivered directly to the job site. Kits include full directions and 24/7 help
lines staffed by seasoned flooring experts, so professionals and amateurs alike can successfully install a quality floor.
